My review:

This was a sweet, second chance romance story set in Brighton (not that far from where I live), and so I greatly enjoyed recognising places mentioned and visited. The lead characters, Ashleigh and Olivier, were both likeable, as were the supporting cast. I especially liked Romesh and his matchmaking. There is a lovely sprinkling of Christmas throughout as Ash and Olivier both learn to be the people they want to be. While the middle slowed a little in terms of the will they won’t they, I really liked the ending; it provided the kind of warmth you expect from a cosy Christmas film.

 My review:

This is my first Jules Wake read, and I LOVED IT! The story is a wonderful wake-up call about achieving a good work-life balance, making good friends and taking time for the things that matter. The characters are mostly warm and friendly – people you are happy to share time with. Claire’s sister, Alice, is the exception, but her actions help provide the catalyst for change in Claire’s work filled, but otherwise empty, life. Hilda, an older character, was a blast – I loved her no-nonsense say it as it is ways. Claire and Ash shared a lovely connection that held me from the beginning of the story and kept me interested all the way to the end. It was refreshing for the hero to be vulnerable and to make mistakes, even after it seemed things might be sorted. Overall this is a fab book that will leave you with a big smile. And there’s a dog, what’s not to like?

Review of Lorraine Wilson’s, JoJo’s French Escape.

My review:

I enjoyed Jojo’s story and her journey back to regaining her self-confidence. While there are darker moments, based on her past experiences, the author balances these well. As the plot unfolds, friendship, puppies and positivity become the key focus of the story. And then there is the very lovely Callum O’Connor, who, as a celebrity chef with plenty of swoon appeal, causes more than what’s cooking to sizzle in the kitchen. As you’d expect from Lorraine Wilson, there is plenty of heat and spice in this book, making for a fab read and ideal escapism.

Review of Emily Harvale’s Chasing Moonbeams in Merriment Bay.

Joining the blog tour for Emily Harvale’s Chasing Moonbeams in Merriment Bay, I am delighted to share my review.

This is Book Two in Emily Harvale’s Merriment Bay series which is interconnected to her Wyntersleap series. Each series can be read alone, but several characters appear in both series.

My review:

This is the first in this series I have read, and it took me a while to get to know all of the characters and their connections. I felt a little as if I had entered in the middle of the action, and needed to catch up. However, that didn’t last; I soon got to know and like the Devon family, their loves and associates. There is a good mix of characters across the age spectrum, and all have their own story (though not all are explored in this book).

The secret in the cellar grabbed my attention, and I liked this development, and the ramifications of it. I also liked the possible love interest it brought about for one of the younger Devons. But I’ll have to read on in the series to find out how that turns out.

Overall, this books felt like a favourite soap, where the characters welcomed me into their lives for a while and provided a lovely bit of escapism, at these uncertain times.

My review:

This was a lovely catch up with the inhabitants of Sunny Brook and all at the Little Duck Pond cafe. The story was told from the perspectives of Ellie, Jaz and Fen, key characters from previous books, and it was great to get their insight into the forthcoming event, as well as to see how their own relationships had developed. Fen remains one of my favourite characters.

After the lead up to this story, I would have liked a little bit more about the actual wedding itself, and to have shared in more of the warmth of Zak and Ellie’s relationship. I really like them as a couple and just felt, for me, the lovely Zak was a bit absent, when he should have been one of the stars of the show. (Can you tell I’ve got a soft spot for him?)

Overall, it’s a fab series, with characters who will become your friends, and a setting you will want to move into.
