 My review:

This is my first Jules Wake read, and I LOVED IT! The story is a wonderful wake-up call about achieving a good work-life balance, making good friends and taking time for the things that matter. The characters are mostly warm and friendly – people you are happy to share time with. Claire’s sister, Alice, is the exception, but her actions help provide the catalyst for change in Claire’s work filled, but otherwise empty, life. Hilda, an older character, was a blast – I loved her no-nonsense say it as it is ways. Claire and Ash shared a lovely connection that held me from the beginning of the story and kept me interested all the way to the end. It was refreshing for the hero to be vulnerable and to make mistakes, even after it seemed things might be sorted. Overall this is a fab book that will leave you with a big smile. And there’s a dog, what’s not to like?

About the author:

Jules Wake announced at the age of ten that she planned to be a writer. Along the way she was diverted by the glamorous world of PR and worked on many luxury brands and not so luxury brands. This proved fabulous training for writing novels as it provided her with the opportunity to hone her writing and creative skills penning copy on a vast range of subjects from pig farming and watches, sunglasses and skincare through to beer and stationery.

She writes best-selling warm-hearted contemporary fiction for One More Chapter as Jules Wake and under her pen name Julie Caplin, she writes the Romantic Escapes series.

Between them, the two Js have written fourteen novels, The Saturday Morning Park Runbeing the latest.

Review of Eliza J Scott’s A Christmas Kiss

With the start of my Christmas Countdown underway, I am delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Eliza J Scott’s festive, feel good read, A Christmas Kiss.

My review:

A Christmas Kiss is Eliza J Scott’s fourth book in the Life on the Moors Series – but the first I have read. While I could tell there was some referencing to previous novels and characters, this book read perfectly well as a standalone novel.

I liked the characters of Zander, Livvie and, of course, Alf – the Labrador who had a big heart and lots of love to give despite his earlier misfortunes. The village of Lytell Stangdale provided an ideal setting. The scenes in the pub and other village gatherings gave it a wonderful community feel; it’s a place where everybody looks out for each other, and family and friends are paramount.

A Christmas Kiss is sure to get you in the festive mood, with snow, love and friendship aplenty, carol singing, and a whole Christmas pud sized helping of community spirit.

Overall it was a fabulously festive read, where I found myself willing Xander and Livvie to find their happy ending (even if Zander’s choices didn’t always make that easy).

My review:

The story is set predominantly in the beautiful landscape of Tuscany and touches on some of the historical background of the area, as well as that of the Quattromani family.

While librarian Antonia is quiet and unassuming, the hero, Lorenzo initially appears brash. For me, his actions in the earlier stages of the book make him difficult to warm to, though I am glad I kept reading as his character, more than anyone else’s, alters as the story progresses.

I liked the honesty of the Countess and enjoyed her growing relationship with Antonia. Despite the differences in their age and status, I could tell there was warmth between them.

The story builds towards a satisfying ending brought about in a sweet, romantic way.

Review of Rosie Green’s Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe

Today, I am delighted to be taking part in the blog tour for Rosie Green’s Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe. This is the third of Rosie’s Little Duck Pond novellas.

My review:

This was my third visit to the Little Duck Pond Cafe and so it felt like returning to catch up on old friends.

Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe follows the story of Fen, who is introduced in the first novella. Fen has been a bit of a shy character in previous books, never really coming to the fore and so it was great to see her take centre stage and shine in this novella. It was good to get to know her better and to will her to find her confidence and the happy ending she deserved.

This was a lovely story about personal growth, finding love and discovering who your friends really are. Being a novella, it is ideal to fit in, during the busy lead up to Christmas and was a great way to escape for a few hours; I am always happy to lose myself in the warm and welcoming world of those who live in and around The Little Duck Pond Cafe and look forward to the next in the series.

Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Review of Rachael Stewart’s The Good Sister

My review:

It has been a while since I have read an erotic novel, so when I saw The Good Sister was up for a one-day blog blitz I thought, why not!

The Good Sister is one of those books that has plenty of wow factor in the opening chapter. Rachael Stewart doesn’t mess around when it comes to getting straight in there with the heat, the action and setting up the conflict. It was great and had me hooked from the start.

From then on the pace of the read steadied but the heat continued, as did the drive to solve the central conflict – should she / shouldn’t she and how can this possibly all end well? Bradley King is a likeable male lead with swoon appeal, who you have to feel for a bit as he is unwittingly drawn into the deception orchestrated by the two sisters. There were plenty of racy moments, but intimacy was also built into the story, which made the choices being made more credible.

Overall it was an enjoyable read. It was my first Rachael Stewart novel but won’t be my last.
